I've been a fan of Elegantees for quite some time now. They are a an ethical and fair trade clothing brand employing overcomers of sex trafficking in Nepal, and they make the best pieces perfect for every wardrobe. They reached out to me to style one of their new pieces and I had so much fun - even though it was only 10 degrees that day. Gotta love the midwest! To see more from the shoot and to read why supporting ethical brands is so important to me, visit their page HERE Th
Happy Thanksgiving! I have so much to be thankful for. I'm incredibly grateful for the couples and families who I have had the opportunity to photograph this year. I have had such a wonderful time with so many of you this year celebrating beautiful wedding days, and magical family milestones. You are not just my clients, you are my friends. And I'm so thankful for the work I get to create with all of you. Thank you for letting me do what I love, and for entrusting me with you
When you think of a vacation, does it feel like something that routinely exists in your life or more of a luxury that’s too far for reach?
The simple definition of vacation is: extended time not working.
I used to always say my family never went on vacation. But what I should’ve said was we never went very far from home.
As I’m getting older. I realize we vacationed a lot. They took us to beaches and zoos, we visited family on the weekends in the southern part of the st
Sometimes, my head gets heavy. A fog weighing me down, blurring the horizon. I would laugh at my ability to sleep for 13 hours. Wake up at 2 pm. Skip class. Not eat. "I was up too late. Hanging out." I would say. I didn't like to commit to things. There was no way to know how I would feel that day, and if I would have to cancel cause the anxiety would sting so bad. The task of putting my feet on the ground and making my bed became something I learned to let myself celebrate.
Tom and Jillian's wedding day was gorgeous! I just love outdoor ceremonies, especially when it's with a waterfront view. The Heidel House is such a beautiful venue and I love shooting there. My favorite parts of a wedding day are being able to witness all the love and support from the wedding party, family members, and friends. All to celebrate the bride and groom! Following the ceremony, Tom and Jillian and their guests, casted wishing stones into the water to bless their ma
Hey, 28. You feel good. You look good too. Some things are changing, that's for sure. I try not to linger in the bathroom mirror for too long, cause admittedly there's new lines around my eyes and mouth that can be seen if I look close enough. In hindsight though it's all just signs of a life being lived. And for that I am truly thankful. Maybe even a bit proud. In just a couple of years I'll be 30 and there's this common theme of dread I witness being expressed for those ent
Most often I feel like an open book. There's not much I won't discuss or talk about when in conversation with others. Yet there remains things left unsaid, reserved for an elect group. Individuals who consistently show up in my life to love me, encourage me, and challenge me. I seek them out for laughter, support, and advice. I reveal to them my mess, my hurt, my anger, and they respond to me with grace and and empathy. We ask the real questions, and take the time to listen t
Every time I begin a family session, I always try to shoot with the end in mind. To when the kids are grown, what moments will everyone reach for to reminisce with? What photos will get passed around the dinner table and get the most laughs? "Just look at this photo!" everyone will say. What captures will best tell their story. Cause I know that's what I appreciate most about all of my old family photos. The ones where no one is looking or someone's crying, are some of my fav
A common question I hear is 'Why is wedding photography so expensive?' And a quick assumption that follows after someone learns I am a wedding photographer, responding to the presumed overpriced transactions,"Wow that's a really profitable market!" These are familiar thoughts, and to be honest, until I immersed myself into the wedding photography industry did I fully become aware of how little I knew about all the unknown parts that go into entrepreneurship and running a busi
Today I am soaking up my last day to wear PANTS in 2017!! Don’t worry, I won’t be going bottomless for the rest of the year. Starting tomorrow I will be participating in Dressember, a campaign focused on raising awareness on human trafficking by wearing a dress every day of December. This will be my third year participating in Dressember, and being a part of such an incredible cause making an impact has become a highlight of each year. I have a deep passion for fighting human
