2019, you were unexpected.
My word for the year was D E L I G H T (read why I chose this word here) and boy did I have some fun! I experienced some deep coming alive joy last year and really leaned into delighting in my life. This was especially life-giving through some of my hardest times from the year.
From travels to adventures to the simple pleasures of slowing down for life's joyful moments, 2019 was a whirlwind of a year.
Here's a bit of BTS from the last year.
Traveled to CA, TN, and OH. I photographed the Flourish Retreat in Lake Arrowhead where I had such an amazing time enjoying the mts views, celebrating with new friends, capturing transformative life moments, and met my forever Cali family :) I road tripped down to Tennessee to visit my sister two times last year. And Karl and I also flew out to Cleveland in September to visit dear friends.
I can't wait to go back to Cali!
We were able to get one last camping trip in while we were in TN...it was SOO cold that night.
Picked up a new winter hobby. I really enjoyed creating for the simple pleasure of imperfectly creating. So excited to continue this in 2020, what should I create next? Here are a few I made last year.
Photographed some really special moments. From weddings to families, I had a blast with my clients this year. A few memorable moments were personal shoots I did. Like this dreamy winter shoot that I endured 12 degree cold weather for (Yikes!!). Or when I woke up at 3am to photograph this golden sunrise session. What we do for some creative expression - 100% worth it!
Raised $501.99 with Dressember to fight human trafficking by wearing a dress every day of the month of December.
Took my little brother to his first Milwaukee Bucks game...and we WON!!!
Karl and I escaped the midwest winter and vacationed in Cancun. We had the most amazing time together eating yummy food, poolside drinks, and soaking up all the sunshine we could. It was the best week ever. Ahh take me back!!
Took too many photos of our cats
Met our first niece and she is just the sweetest, most perfect little lady ever. We love her so much!
Celebrated 5 years of marriage our getaway is a whole other story in itself because the roads to our cabin weren't plowed and we got stuck THREE TIMES during our drive. We finally had to abandon the car in the road and snowshoe the rest of the way in there was that much snow!! A celebration we will never forget. <3
Summer brought us so much fun. From day trips to New Glarus and Door County, planting a flower garden, and Saturday Farmer's Markets, Karl and I enjoyed many little adventures together.
Visited the New Glarus Brewery where I finally got to see where my favorite beer is made. Such a fun place!
Loved seeing our flower garden grow and can't wait to see them bloom back
DC wineries and lake-view bike rides
Shot more film and took my Instax just about everywhere
Taylor Swift jams on REPEAT, watching birds, and lunch dates in the park ;)
A bike brewery tour in Appleton
Saturday Farmer's Markets
Lots of yummy foods and became regulars at our favorite tea joint, Fika tea
After so many years, I finally got back on a horse. What joy I feel when I'm on a horse. My sister surprised me with a ride when I first visited her in June and then when my whole family traveled down in November we got my little brother to ride for the first time. And he loved it! Must be a little cowboy in him too. Horses are my happy place.
One of my favorite pics from last year. ^^^^
HAPPY AS CAN BEEE!
Attended concerts and musicals, such as Lion King, Mumford and Sons, and Hamilton!! What amazing shows! Karl surprised me with tix to Hamilton and I still cannot believe I got to BE IN THE ROOM WHERE IT HAPPENED. ;)
Lived outdoors. We camped, hiked, biked, walked, and spent as much time as we could outside all throughout the seasons. I slowed down to delight in the beauty all around me.
Camping on Lake Superior and this beautiful rainbow came out during breakfast
Fall in the UP is something else
Picking out our 2019 Christmas tree and Christmas Day hike
Read 46 books. Find me on Goodreads to follow along with this year's reading challenge of 52 books.
Spent as much time as we could with our people. Our friendships deepened, much laughter was had, and we kicked off the new year with a 1920's murder mystery party. Hello 2020, you are looking good.
