On April 12th, Karl and I celebrated our sixth wedding anniversary. Wow! I cannot believe it's been six years since our wedding day.
Normally, we love to get away for our anniversary. In past years we've traveled to beaches, cabins, or our favorite B&B in Door County. We were originally going to stay a few nights at the B&B this year. But due to the current pandemic, we got to enjoy a simple celebration at home and bring the B&B to us!
Karl even blew up the air mattress in the living room and played a fireplace on the TV to give all the B&B vibes. We made a delicious breakfast in bed and since it was also Easter, tuned into our Church's Easter service. I really love that our anniversary fell on Easter this year, it made it even a little more special. Such a beautiful way to celebrate the love we have in Christ.
And just like our wedding day, it rained on and off. Which made it extra cozy in our mock B&B. We decided not to do gifts and instead exchanged homemade cards (except we ran out of printer paper, so I had to get a little creative with what I could find). We baked cookies, stayed in our pajamas all day, enjoyed 4 pm happy hour with a cheeseboard of all cheeseboards, and binged Boy Meets World on Disney+. Seriously, that show does not age.
We ended our night with a frozen pizza and watched our wedding video. I hadn't seen it in a few years, and honestly, I kind of forgot how much fun our wedding day was! I love how wedding days are like a bit of a time capsule. I cried taking it all in again watching the anticipation and joy unfold. It means so much to me that we have this keepsake for years and years, and can't wait to watch it again on next year's anniversary.
This wasn't exactly the anniversary we planned for, but we were together. And the fact that we chose to celebrate in even the simplest of ways that we could, made it all the more special. Marriage has been the greatest adventure of my life. My promises are hard work to keep, but I really believe in what we're building together. And I'm incredibly grateful to have Karl in my life.
Cheers to 6 years of marriage and many, many more.
