I walked into the church and found the room Lystra was getting ready in. Soft music was playing in the background, and Lystra was quietly singing along. She welcomed me with a big and bright smile, and I couldn't help but feel so excited for the day ahead to unfold!
When I first met Matthew and Lystra months prior, we talked about their wedding day over coffee. They told me about how they met, stories of their relationship, and how Matt likes to collect hats!! (His goal is to have 365, and I think he's at 250). It was so easy to talk and laugh with them, and when our time came to end it felt like I was not leaving clients but new friends. And that's who Matt and Lystra are. They care deeply about the people in their lives, and part of what they most love about each other. Matt loves that Lystra is a strong, smart, and independent woman who will go above and beyond for others. Lystra loves that Matt is a strong communicator, and keeps serving Christ at the forefront in all he does. Matthew and Lystra are two people who have not only been preparing for a wedding, but for the days that follow. The marriage that binds them as one.
The ceremony was filled with guests, every seat taken, to share in the witness of Matt and Lystra's marriage vows. As the pastor pronounced them husband and wife, the whole room clapped and cheered!! The day continued on as they celebrated with toasts and dancing, with all their friends and family. As I said goodbye to the newlyweds, and gave them each a hug congratulating them one last time, I wished them all the very best. Even though this day is coming to an end, a new day is beginning. The ending of their wedding starts the beginning of their marriage. And that's what the whole celebrations is all about.
Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Clausen!
